For some of us, our dog getting skunked is one of our biggest fears! You let your dog out for a quick potty break and your hit with the dreaded SMELL. What do you do next? Here is our tips for kicking the stank!

February to March is skunk mating season and of course this means more risk of your pet getting skunked. Skunks can spray as far at 10 Feet and have a direct and accurate spray! Skunks are out around dusk and dawn foraging for food. Checking outside before letting your dog out first thing in the morning and late at night before bed can help prevent the stank.

It happened. Your dog got skunked.

If it is safe, don’t bring your pet inside until you are prepared. If you have to bring them in right away, go straight to the bathroom and don’t touch ANYTHING!

Your first instinct is going to be to blast them with water to get the stink off… this is a big NO NO! Skunk’s spray is an oily substance, so when you apply water, it spreads even more! This will make getting rid of the stank even harder. Your first step is to concoct your homemade skunk gunk or grab one of these –> products you hopefully have on hand.

Apply your product all over avoiding your dog’s eyes and let it sit for 5 minutes. Use a towel to wipe off any skunk yuck you can see. Apply more of your product. Then rinse… rinse.. and rinse some more. Once you have thoroughly rinsed, bath your dog with regular dog shampoo and rinse well.

We know this is a stinky situation, but we are here to help!
